What is Salvation?
Man’s Condition
Every single person living on this earth has committed at least one sin. (Romans 3:23) No matter how good a person is, everyone has committed at least one sin and that sin is justification for eternal separation from God and a destination of hell. However, there is hope…
Why Jesus?
Any sin we commit makes us deserving of spiritual death- eternal separation from God. However, in His abundant mercy, God had a plan. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, as propitiation (payment) for our sins. (Romans 3:24-25) So now, instead of us having to pay for the sins we committed by spending an eternity in hell, Jesus already paid that debt when He died on the cross for us and went down to hell in our place.
God, Himself, testified of Jesus’ authenticity. (Matthew 3:17; 17:5; Mark 1:11; Luke 3:22; 2 Peter 1:17) In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father, but by Me.” Acts 4:12 says, “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
If you read the Old Testament, God always required a sacrifice for sins. The sacrifice was always the best that man could offer- pure, unspotted, unblemished. Consequently, God gave the best that He could offer, His Son, as the ultimate sacrifice once for all. He paid the price for our sins. (1 Peter 3:18) So why would you want to pay the price also, especially when that price is death? If you accept Jesus Christ, you accept His gift of dying on the cross and going to hell in your place. (Romans 5:8-11)
What If I Just Don’t Believe?
If I truly believe that I can breathe underwater without any external apparatus, does it make it true? Of course, not. Once I have been informed of the truth, it is my responsibility to align my belief with the truth so that I don’t die. In the same regard, we should always align our beliefs with what is true, not attempt to shape the truth to fit our beliefs. We don’t shape God to fit our beliefs; we shape our beliefs to reflect God. (Acts 17:29)
What Must I Do to be Saved?
Conclusion
What it all boils down to is that God loves you. He loves you so much, He sent His own Son to die for you so that He wouldn’t be separated from you for all eternity. Since He gave such a wonderful Gift as that, why would you reject it? If He gave His Son for you, how many more great and wonderful things does He have in store for you?
A Prayer of Salvation
Dear Father in heaven, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for my sins. I repent of every sin that I have committed, both known and unknown. I accept the Gift that You have given by believing in my heart and confessing with my mouth that Jesus Christ is Your Son, that He died on the cross, and rose on the third day. Thank You for adopting me into Your family! In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
And that’s it!
